SINGLE PARENT? DON’T PAY DOUBLE IN SUPERMARKET TRAVEL INSURANCE LOTTERY!

With the Easter holidays looming, families will no doubt be planning to get away from it all. But while family holidays are expensive enough, for single parents footing the bill alone the pressure is even greater. One element single mums and dads should not pay over the odds for, just because of their situation however, is travel insurance.
One leading provider, InsureandGo has found that the big name supermarket brands, Sainsbury’s and Tesco, are making single parents pay way over the odds for their travel insurance.

Sainsbury’s Bank, while claiming to offer ‘great cover for less’, requires single parent families to increase its single adult rate by 50 per cent for single trip insurance, making the prices more than double the amount they would pay with InsureandGo.

And they’re not the only ones as it’s a supermarket sweep with Tesco Travel Insurance charging single parent families the same as a two adult family.

Perry Wilson from InsureandGo says: “Single parent families are being penalised because of their situation and this is grossly unfair. At InsureandGo if you’re a single parent you will pay the same rate as a single person and this includes covering up to three kids for free as well.

“Everyone should be able to purchase high quality insurance at the lowest prices possible and not be penalised just because of their situation.”

The following table outlines the huge differences in price between InsureandGo and Sainsbury’s Bank for a single parent family:

Annual Europe
(inc ski)

Annual Worldwide
(inc ski)

Single Trip, 1 week, Europe

Single Trip, 1 week, Worldwide

InsureandGo

28.31 39.78 10.42 23.89

Tesco

49.50 72.90 27.00 27.00

Perry continues: “Parents are penalised enough when it comes to taking holidays out of term-time because of the inflated prices charged by travel agents and other holiday providers. And what with the new legislation which gives head teachers the power to issue fines if kids are taken out of school during term time, parents really do have enough to pay for to get away from it all. We just want them, single or not, to know that they do not need to pay over the odds for their insurance – and have the peace of mind that they and their loved ones are covered should the unexpected occur.”

InsureandGo policies include up to three under 18s for free per insured adult. Even grandparents can benefit from this by including their grandchildren on their policy, again for free. All levels of cover include over 40 adventure activities as standard and its annual policies automatically include winter sports – a huge saving if you’re off to the slopes as well as the beach during the year.

Annual Multi-Trip Prices for single parent families - how the three compare

Sainsbury's Bank 91.50 135.50
