Carbon Offsetting
Carbon offsetting allows you the opportunity
to balance out your emissions and contribute to fast and cost-effective action to
combat climate change. For as little as just £1.60 for a flight to Europe,
you can help to fund environmental projects around the world.
By purchasing Carbon Clear's carbon credits from InsureandGo (1 carbon credit = 1 tonne of CO2) you
will be helping to fund projects which reduce emissions and support communities
in the developing world.
Looking after the environment is important and InsureandGo want to give you the
chance to help out too. Offsetting your carbon with your travel insurance is a convenient
way to do your bit to make the world a better place. So when you insure with InsureandGo make sure you offset the impact of your flights and help make the world a better place.
InsureandGo has partnered with Carbon Clear to offer you the chance to
offset your flight emissions. Carbon Clear supports projects all over the world.
Each project is aimed at reducing carbon emissions and working with local communities
to deliver practical solutions to their problems.
Take a look at just some of the projects your money will help to support below:
Darfur Efficient Cook-stoves Project, Sudan
This project replaces traditional 3-stone fires with modern, energy efficient stoves
to low-income families in the Darfur region of Sudan. Your money helps to pay the
upfront costs of LPG stoves and fuel canisters. The money also helps to assist the
local women's groups in making the stoves more accessible to poor households.

Rice Husk Cogeneration, India
This project uses rice husks to provide heat and electricity to a textile mill in
India. The use of agricultural waste for power eliminates reliance on fossil fuels,
while providing additional income to local farmers. This project was the first of
its kind in India's Punjab region.

So, how do we work out your carbon offset? Well, this is the formula we use:
Passenger-kilometres travelled (pkm) X Kilograms of CO2 per pkm X Kilometre uplift factor
We know this sounds complicated but it's actually quite simple. This is how we use
out these figures:
We add 9% to accommodate for the fact that planes don't usually fly in a straight
line, as advised by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
And finally, until scientific consensus is more established we have used a Radiative
Forcing Index (RFI) of 1.
