Britain’s leading independent travel insurance provider, InsureandGo has seen an 18% increase in people seeking travel insurance for UK based travel.

Policies for overseas travel insurance have declined by 6%.

Britons are swapping the blazing sun on a beach in Spain for something a bit closer to home. Alternatives could be a ride on the big dipper at Blackpool, a weekend at an English Country Manor House or surfing the waves in Cornwall.

“With the current economic situation it is not surprising that we have seen a decline in foreign policies”, says InsureandGo founder Perry Wilson.

“However the increase in UK policies shows that the recession has not stopped people having a well deserved break. While airlines will see a drop in passenger numbers, hotels and holiday parks will see an increase in bookings, which will be good for the British tourism industry.”
