In a typical month, almost three million people admit to driving after drinking an alcoholic drink, according to new research.
The Sainsbury's report came in the wake of the Department for Transport's campaign to this summer to combat drink driving.
In an average month, 13 per cent of male motorists and seven per cent of female drivers surveyed admitted to having driven under the influence.
It is the 55 to 64 age group that admitted to drunk driving in the greatest numbers, with a 19 per cent share of those surveyed.
And the youngest 16 to 34 age bracket only had four per cent of regular drink driving incidents, according to the report.
Steve Johnson, of Sainsbury's said that there are about 100,000 convictions for drink driving every year and 3,000 people who are killed or seriously injured as a result of it.
"The best option is not to drink at all if you intend to get behind the wheel of a car," he added.
Don't lose out by not being covered should unforeseen car accidents take place.
