A new study has found that a quarter of UK homeowners lack
home insurance cover for the contents of their property.
The Confused.com poll suggests that this is particularly worrying considering the average value of most people's homes, which the firm reports as containing a "veritable treasure trove" of valuable items, including flat-screen TVs, personal computers, laptops, jewellery and gaming consoles.
When insuring a home's contents, the company advises consumers to shop around for the best deal before deciding to go with a certain provider as savings can often be made.
Debra Williams, managing director of Confused.com, comments: "Contents insurance is not a legal requirement, but should really be considered an absolute necessity. Many people decide against contents cover without considering the potential pit-falls involved."
Meanwhile, insurance provider Saga has advised homeowners to avoid DIY tasks this Easter weekend after a study found that one in four people are injured making improvements to their home.
