Councils throughout the UK will be working to promote domestic holidays and days out in 2009, an expert claims.

More Brits plan to take a domestic break in 2009 to save money on their travel expenditure, but cutting travel insurance could see people out of pocket in the future should a problem occur on a trip.

According to a spokesperson from the Local Government Association, there are "good reasons" for optimism in the UK travel industry this year.

She said that more people will stay domestic in the country for a break and also commented on the attractiveness of the UK as a destination for tourists from Europe and America.

"Councils are aware that there are opportunities within the domestic tourism industry, both to help local people save money and have a holiday without it costing the earth," she noted.

Cheap travel insurance from InsureandGo can help to cover any issues which may occur on a domestic trip or holiday overseas.
