Rugby fans travelling abroad to watch upcoming 6 Nations matches in France, Italy and Ireland have been advised to check the terms of their travel insurance.

A number of high-profile games will be played abroad, with upcoming matches at Croke Park and the Stadio Flaminio sure to attract big crowds.

Halifax is advising lucky fans with tickets to forthcoming matches to take out a travel insurance policy before they travel.

The company advises that although the trips may only be short in duration, many of the same risks can still apply.

Paul Birkhead argues that travel insurance is often overlooked, asserting that annual insurance is often a good option for the growing number of people that make frequent short trips abroad.

"The main benefit of annual cover is that you only need to take out your policy once a year to be insured for as many trips as you like within a 12 month period," he added.

InsureandGo offers single trip and annual travel insurance policies to suit individual holiday habits.
