Anyone thinking of taking a holiday this year has been urged to get advice so they can take out
travel insurance that is right for them.
Malcolm Tarling, spokesperson for the Association of British Insurers (ABI), said that it is important for people to seek advice in order to get the most appropriate level of cover.
He commented: "It is important that people - when they are booking travel arrangements - not only take out [travel insurance] but are given clear transparent advice about the options that are available."
Mr Tarling added that
holiday insurance is "a necessity not a luxury", even for short trips, as it offers protection which is extremely cheap for the cover provided.
According to research carried out by
InsureandGo, the total cost of holiday mishaps suffered by Britons last year exceeded £90 million.
The top holiday calamities for the year were medical problems, flight cancellation, lost or stolen baggage or money, and travel delays.
InsureandGo offers travel insurance to help cover the cost of holiday mishaps.
