Non-UK online booking travel websites are not completely safe, the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) has said today.
The comments came after the Times reported the growing practice of holidaymakers to book their flights on US websites in an effort to make savings of up to 30 per cent.
But Sean Tipton, spokesperson for ABTA, advised customers to be wary of booking on non-UK websites as credit card fraud was harder to tackle with websites that were based in another continent.
"If you are dealing with a foreign website it is much harder to know who you are dealing with. If you are dealing with a UK based company, you will know who they are," said Mr Tipton.
Mr Tipton also called into question the Times' report, saying similar deals were also to be found on UK websites, as these also responded to supply and demand.
The best way to keep flight costs down was to book early, he advised.
