'A quarter' miss out on insurance deals

More than one in four homeowners may miss out on competitive deals by not shopping around for home insurance deals.

Research by Sainsbury's Bank suggests that 8.55 million consumers did not obtain any additional quotes when they last renewed their cover.

Some 16 per cent only got one extra quote, other than the one given by their current provider.

Head of Sainsbury's Home Insurance Steve Johnson comments: "Although it may seem tempting to just stick with your renewal quote or the first quote you get, it really is essential to shop around."

Mr Johnson adds that prices vary dramatically and notes the existence of great deals for those that seek them out.

Lloyds TSB recently advised consumers to remain vigilant against potential damage to their property due to adverse weather conditions during the festive period.
