Some 25 per cent of Britons will take part in skiing, snowboarding or other snow activity holiday without any insurance in place this winter, a study has revealed.

Recent research by travel insurer esure has also suggested that some 17 per cent of UK adults would take part in extreme sports such as ice-lake diving, even if they were aware that they would not be protected by their travel insurance policy.

Head of travel insurance at esure Jacky Brown commented: "Any winter sports holiday comes with a certain element of risk. Whether on a nursery slope or a black run, accidents do happen and it's crucial to have medical cover to avoid footing a hefty bill."

Regarding treatment, the firm notes that repatriation from Europe can cost some £4,000 and that figure can be doubled for emergency journeys back from the USA and Canada.

Earlier this year, price comparison site moneysupermarket.com noted that some 18 per cent of those who go on ski breaks do not spend any of their holiday on the slopes.

Those planning to go on-piste this winter may find that they can obtain a competitive ski insurance quote from InsureandGo.
