Pet owners considering travelling with their animal may wish to consider a number of tips before setting off on their break.

SFGate.com has reported that pet owners should be prepared by carrying a first aid kit, the number of their local vet and ensure that at least two windows are kept open in the vehicle at all times to stop animals from getting too hot while being cooped up in the car.

Furthermore, the newspaper noted that animals are creatures of habit and to avoid unwarranted stress it is useful to pack a few of your pets favourite toys to keep them entertained and comfortable in their surroundings.

Meanwhile, research carried out by Datamonitor recently predicted a growth in the number of pet insurance policies being taken out in the UK over the next two years.

The report showed that in 2006 the UK pet insurance market was valued at £360 million; however, this figure has been forecast to rise to £600 million by 2011.

Pet insurance from InsureandGo ensures vet bills are covered.
