Low cost airline Ryanair will expand with two new bases in the east coast of Spain, as Aer Lingus is set to establish a Belfast base.

Irish airline Ryanair already has the most expansive operations in Europe, and will now set-up the company's 21st and 22nd bases in Alicante and Valencia, increasing its routes through Spain.

The company would add 11 new routes through Alicante, more than doubling the journeys through the city in eastern Spain.

On Friday it announced its first new route, from Doncaster Sheffield airport to Alicante three times a week to start on November 13th.

Ryanair invested about £70 million in each new base.

Aer Lingus, on the other hand will re-establish the Belfast to London route and run 12 flights a week to Heathrow, website travelmole.co.uk has reported.

The airline will also run seven additional routes from its new Belfast base, set to start between December of this year and February of 2008.

Among the destinations offered will be Barcelona, Geneva and Amsterdam.
