Travel operator AirAsia will be offering flights to India from December, it has been reported.
The low-cost airline will sell tickets for the first flight from midnight this evening (October 29th) will the first flight departing from Malaysia for Tiruchi in Tamil Nadu at 07:40 MST on December 1st.
AirAsia chief executive Datuk Tony Fernandes said that it will initially be a once daily flight but that the initial tremendous response could mean the firm may add a second daily service to its schedule, according to Asia One.
He went on to say that plans were in place for flights to be offered to a number of other Indian destinations, including Madras, Madurai and Kochi.
Mr Fernandes also pointed out that AirAsia-X, a subsidiary of AirAsia, would continue to fly to New Delhi, Bombay, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Calcutta and said that he expects to see a huge growth in Indian tourism, despite the global credit crunch.
Bernama reports that AirAsia-X is expected to take delivery of its first Airbus A330 this Friday (October 31st).
