A security trial at two airports in the UK which allowed laptop carriers to pass through to the gates without having to open up their laptops has come to an end.

But whether or not a computer has to be taken out of a bag, travellers should always remember to keep a close eye on their laptops and other belongings in an airport, so that they do not have to make a claim on their holiday insurance as a result of a theft.

Heathrow and Glasgow airports have been taking part in the trial, where new scanners that can see further inside a bag have been in use, meaning people have not had to take their computers out of their bags as they pass through the security gate.

Currently, EU law requires that laptops be removed from bags at the security points. But the trial has helped to reduce queuing time at the gates - meaning business travellers have had one less thing to worry about ahead of their travels.

And investing in a comprehensive travel insurance policy to ensure that belongings are covered should any airport thefts occur could help to bring further peace of mind to business and leisure travellers alike.

The results of this security trial are to be analysed and evaluated, a spokesperson for the Department for Transport told the Times.

InsureandGo offers travel insurance and computer insurance policies, so consumers can find peace of mind wherever they and their computer equipment may be.
