Edinburgh airport is set to get a £40 million renovation, which could prove beneficial for Scottish tourists looking to jet off to sunnier climates.

Holidaymakers have plenty of time to buy flights and travel insurance and pack their case before checking out the new-look airport when it opens in 2011.

As part of the plans, a new terminal will be built at the airport, which will feature a new departure lounge, bars, shops and restaurants.

The airport, currently the busiest in Scotland, has experienced a jump in travellers over the past few years.

Since 1998, passenger numbers have doubled, from 4.5 million to almost nine million last year.

The airport offers flights to more than 100 destinations, with Amsterdam proving most popular.

InsureandGo offers low-cost holiday insurance which covers holidaymakers against any unexpected incident while on a trip.
