Many people underestimated the temperate climes experienced in alpine regions during the summer months, it has been suggested.
According to Paul Collins, property editor at Buy Association, the mountain regions are "fantastic" for sunshine holidays.
"If people are looking for a break in the sun, but something that's just slightly different, you get the fantastic clean air in the mountains," Mr Collins said.
He added that lakes and rivers are also clear and fresh as they are fed by glacial melt.
For those looking to buy a summer property in an alpine region, Mr Collins added that a lot of residences are sold on leaseback schemes, meaning that people are given a certain amount of use of the property annually, with tourist authorities leasing it for the rest of the time and giving owners a portion of the rent.
According to Channel 4 property programme A Place in the Sun, Austria is ranked 16th in its list of the 20 top places to make money in property.
