The Vauxhall Ampera has been honoured with What Car?'s Green Technology Award for its innovative and groundbreaking Voltec propulsion system.
European sales of the Ampera are scheduled to get underway in late 2011/early 2012. However, those interested in purchasing a green vehicle should remember that they still must hold valid
car insurance in order to drive such a vehicle on UK roads.
The vehicle was praised for its ability to take on extended journeys without the need for constant recharging, due to the vehicle's onboard petrol generator which stops the car's battery from fully discharging.
GM Europe director of advanced vehicle development Gherardo Corsini said: "[This is] further proof that the Voltec drive system is widely becoming recognised, both across the industry and to the general public, as the most usable and realistic form of alternative propulsion available in the near-term future."
BMW also recently scooped two awards the What Car? Green Car Awards 2009, with its Mini Cooper S retaining the Green Sports Car of the Year title and its BMW 318d Saloon winning the Executive Car of the Year award.
InsureandGo provides car insurance to cover vehicles of all levels of environmental impact.
