Britons who own animals have been urged to take out pet insurance to cover the costs of any medical expenses for their animal.

Individuals have been advised by Rediff Business that by taking out comprehensive cover for their pet they are protecting themselves from having to pay out large sums should their animal fall ill and require veterinary treatment, according to Rediff Business.

While pet insurance predominantly covers cats and dogs, there are other types of specialist pet insurance which individuals can take out to cover all types of animals, from horses to chameleons.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail recently revealed that while working at Battersea Dogs Home, author Melissa Wareham noted meeting a number of celebrities including Kevin Spacey.

She said that one employee did not recognise the Hollywood actor and proceeded to extol to him the benefits of pet insurance for a considerable length of time.

InsureandGo offers pet insurance to help cover the costs of trips to the vet.
