Those wanting to learn a little of the language of a country as well as taking a holiday there could consider using an audio phrase book, it has been suggested.
Bas Jasburg, company technical officer for Steape, said that audio phrase books had a benefit over traditional ones as they allow you to actually hear the phrase, so people will "definitely understand what you are saying."
Mr Jasburg also points out the fact that audio phrase books often have translation and phonetics so enthusiastic language buffs could even teach themselves a bit of holiday lingo.
He went on to say that it was convenient to have some help on a device that you would carry with you anyway and meant that travellers don't have to splash out on a whole phrase book when going to a country for a few days.
Lonely Planet is devising an audio phrase book for use on Java-enabled mobile phones, in conjunction with Steape.
There are around 200 phrases available for each of the ten languages, which include Mandarin, Spanish and German.
