Those who pass their driving test in August may be most at risk of having to make a claim on their car insurance, according to research by Admiral.

Managing director of the car insurance provider Sue Longthorn comments: "When we compared the statistics of when motorists passed their tests with the frequency of accidents those people had, we were surprised to see that there definitely was a pattern."

The complete opposite was found to be true for December, with the least number of people passing their test, but also the lowest number of accidents occurring.

As such, Ms Longthorn identified the best month to sit a driving test as January, which has a reasonably high pass rate and a fairly low number of accidents.

Meanwhile, motorists were recently advised by NFU Mutual to ensure they have adequate cover for their vehicles as winter approaches and icy roads are more prevalent.
