Young Aussies wanting to come to the UK for a working holiday will need a minimum of $3,900 (£1,572) in their bank accounts to be granted a visa for the trip, it has been reported.

Changes due to come into place on November 27th will see the old rule that they can only work for a limited part of their stay lifted.

Phil Woolas, the British Minister for immigration, is due to announce details of the new working holiday visas in a speech to the Confederation of Industry in London, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

According to the newspaper, the new tier-two and tier-five visas are part of a shift to a points style migration system similar to the one in place in Australia - designed to protect the UK labour market and ensure that work permits are allocated depending on whether people have the right skills to help the British economy.

Recently released information from the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship shows that more young Brits are going on working trips down under during the last three months than in the same period in 2007.
