Australia is a country that possesses all the attributes needed to be a great cruise holiday location, according to Cruise Critic.
The vast and varied landscape of the country makes a voyage around Australia a great way to see a whole range of different destinations, one expert has said.
Carolyn Spencer Brown, editor in chief at Cruise Critic, also believes the recent announcement that the Queen Mary 2 will be based in the country during 2012 for a circumnavigation voyage is a "very significant" development.
The announcement offers travellers "an opportunity for a more in-depth visit to Australia" because cruise lines traditionally only travel from Auckland to Sydney.
According to recent figures published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the total number of international arrivals and departures reached a record high last year, suggesting that the country has never been more popular.
In all, Queen Mary 2 will spend 28 nights sailing around Australia, as she sets off from Cape Town to Sydney via Fremantle and Adelaide.
