For those concerned about the possibility of being separated from their luggage while travelling, one commentator has offered advice to minimise the disruption caused.
Ian Bradley, spokesperson for the Association of Independent Tour Operators, suggested that travellers should spread clothing between their bag and the luggage of those they are travelling with.
He also said that while
travel insurance is recommended, it should not normally be necessary to take out an additional policy to cover baggage loss.
"You'd be extremely foolhardy not to travel with insurance, especially when bags are going astray. It makes sense, for not a huge amount of money, to get peace of mind," Mr Bradley commented.
He advised tourists to protect their possessions and check the terms of their policy so they understand what is covered.
The BBC reports that approximately 28,000 bags were affected by the disruptions to the opening of the new Terminal 5 building at Heathrow.
InsureandGo offers comprehensive
travel insurance policies to cover a range of eventualities.
