Heathrow's second largest operator BMI has expressed outrage at the decision by BAA to delay moving British Airways (BA) services to Terminal 5 following the problems encountered during the opening of the new building.

In a statement issued on Friday, BMI said that BAA was operating with a disregard to the way in which such a delay would affect more than 50 airlines operating from Heathrow terminals.

According to Nigel Turner, chief executive at BMI, a consultation period set out a timetable and programme for the move which many airlines are now "geared up" to implement.

"BAA and BA have shown a total disregard for all other airlines and their passengers at Heathrow in coming to this decision because of their own shortcomings and their inability to implement an agreed plan," Mr Turner commented.

The Guardian has reported that a series of emergency talks will be undertaken by BA chief executives following a number of concerns in financial markets that lessons have not been learned from the problems experienced at Terminal 5.
