Many British holidaymakers are downsizing their luggage in a bid to save money at the airport, Breaking Travel News has reported.

According to research from lastminute.com, nearly 75 per cent of holidaymakers are planning to travel with smaller bags in order to avoid paying extra baggage charges and fines.

40 per cent of those surveyed also said that they found rules regarding taking baggage onto aircraft confusing, and 20 per cent had been caught out and forced to pay a fine in the past.

Lastminute.com’s head of lifestyle, Mark Bower, commented, “Gone are the days when it was possible to take the kitchen sink on holiday.

“Today’s holidaymakers need to keep it lean and pack light in order to avoid these charges.”

For those looking to cover their belongings whilst on holiday, InsureandGo offers travel insurance with baggage cover.
