The Beatles remain ever-present in Liverpool, despite the fact that the band's last performance in their home city took place over 40 years ago.

Attractions such as the Cavern Club remain as popular as ever and new sites such as the four-star Hard Days Night Hotel, which is due to open in the near future.

The Fab Four Taxi Tour takes tourists around the city to visit attractions such as Penny Lane and the chance to visit Ringo Starr's childhood home.

Jerry Goldman, director of the Beatles Story exhibition, told the BBC: "[Their] music is known and loved by kids of all ages. That is what is going to keep the Beatle industry going for a couple of more generations."

Liverpool is the 2008 European Capital of Culture and celebrations throughout the year will see performances by the two surviving Beatles, Ringo Starr and Sir Paul McCartney.
