A geography professor has called for an unusual place to be deemed a World Heritage Site - the Spanish tourist resort of Benidorm, which is famed for tack, nightlife and attracting Brits who want to jet off for some sun but still enjoy a full English breakfast each day.
According to a report, Professor Philippe Duhamel, a geography expert from the University of Angers in France, believes that the resort is the "Dubai of Europe" and is as culturally significant as the Taj Mahal or Stonehenge.
He went on to say that Benidorm was unique in Europe and pointed out it is well known worldwide and is a "remarkable" site for mass tourism.
Mr Duhamel said: "For many years everybody spoke badly of Benidorm, but with time it has gained value, as has happened in other examples of architectural world heritage."
Jacqui Thake, writing for the Daily Mirror, says she loves Benidorm's "endless blue skies" as well as the sight of young and old having so much fun.
