Consumers may be able to obtain a more competitive deal on
travel insurance from a broker than a travel agent, the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) said in recent days.
Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the association, explained that policies sold by travel agents may not cover certain situations such as terrorist attacks and as such advised caution.
He urged individuals to not just take an offer but to obtain a second opinion from an independent broker, as they will explain any intricacies in the documentation.
"Some travel agents are obviously good guys but please get a second opinion from your broker. You get simple, straightforward advice from your broker. The advice is free and you get a better, more competitive policy," Mr Trudgill concluded.
According to a Biba survey, over a quarter (27 per cent) of people buy
travel insurance through their travel agent when they purchase their holiday.
