A growing number of UK residents are choosing to tie the knot abroad in order to avoid the unreliable British weather.
Such is assertion of the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba), which has explained that the popularity of overseas marriages has also increased as low-cost flights have become more abundant.
Peter Staddon, a spokesperson for the group, explained that some couples may also have been inspired by high-profile celebrity foreign ceremonies such as Wayne Rooney and Colleen McLoughlin's and Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes'.
Advising those considering tieing the knot outside the UK, Mr Staddon commented: "I cannot comment on the cheapest or safest place to get married, but the Caribbean ... and the Mediterranean islands are seen as good locations."
Research from First Choice Travel conducted in 2006 has shown that 57 per cent of Britons would consider getting married abroad, while 80 per cent said that traditional white weddings are more stressful than getting hitched in the Caribbean.
