Last year saw the largest annual increase in motorcycle sales for seven years, according to the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA).

Commenting on these findings, a spokesperson from Churchill has suggested that much of this growth could be the result of people looking to avoid the congestion charge in operation in London.

Under the scheme, car and van owners have to pay a levy to drive in the central London area, as well as Kensington and Chelsea.

For those looking to purchase a motorcycle, the spokesperson advised that previous car-driving history may be taken into account, although this varies from one insurer to the next.

She also said that postcodes and other factors all contribute to the likely cost of a motorcycle insurance premium.

According to the MCIA, driving a moped or scooter in London can decrease journey times by as much as 48 per cent.

InsureandGo offers robust motorcycle insurance cover, as well as car and van insuranceservices.
