Individuals could consider taking out
motorcycle insurance and getting on two wheels as part of a way to reduce their travel expenses, as new research shows some 5.5 million car-driving commuters could save money by making the switch.
Research carried out by the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCI) has shown that a quarter (24 per cent) of people choose to ride their vehicles because they feel that transportation on two wheels is a cheaper alternative to driving a car.
Sheila Rainger, MCI spokesperson said: "Even people without a licence would soon see a return on their investment, as their initial financial outlay on lessons, test and kit will soon be recouped in cost savings, congestion avoidance and faster journey times."
The MCI recently called on the government to make amendments to the way that the two-part motorcycle test is carried out in the UK.
The organisation hopes that consultation ahead of the introduction of the new European Third Directive on Driving Licences will help to both streamline the test and make it more relevant for day-to-day road use.
