The total number of international travellers that will visit Brazil by the end of the year is expected to outstrip last year's figures, according to new data.
Statistics from the Brazilian Tourism Institute, Embratur, suggest that October saw a 15 per cent increase in foreign tourists visiting the country compared to the corresponding month in 2006.
Embratur is promoting Brazil as a tourist destination at over 40 international trade fairs and as such it is expected that last year's total figure of 6.36 million foreign visitors will be beaten, according to Brazzil Magazine.
Business and events director at Embratur Marcelo Pedroso told the publication: "The fairs promote a positive image of Brazil in foreign countries, as they announce tourist destinations, products and services in strategic markets."
Tourists may be attracted to a number of festivals that are due to take place over the festive period in the region, such as Festa de Santa Barbara and Festa de Nossa Senhora da Conceicao da Praia.
