Brazil is the most popular destination for volunteers looking to work abroad, research by price comparison website Cheapflights.co.uk has shown.

In memory of the charitable work that Diana, Princess of Wales, was involved in throughout her life, the website chose pre-existing charity projects and asked visitors to choose which one they would potentially volunteer for.

The top destination chosen, with a clear lead over the rest, was Brazil's Youth Outreach project with 37 per cent of the vote.

The charity helps abandoned street children in the South Americna country.

In second place came helping to raise AIDS awareness in Tanzania.

And third was the chance to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina by volunteering to rebuild homes damaged by it, as part of the Habitat for Humanity project in the USA.

Closing the list were volunteering at Mother Teresa's hospice, the Calcutta charity having been visited several times by Princess Diana in her lifetime, and the Yaounde Deaf school in Cameroon.
