The Brazilian government's investment in tourism is paying off, and is set to continue, a spokesperson from Property Frontiers said on Wednesday.
According to the real estate company, the Brazilian government has spent over £300 million in the promotion of tourism, and is currently developing plans to build the world's fourth largest airport in Natal.
So far the investment is paying off, with tourism growing by 4.5 per cent between 2005 and 2006.
And new direct flights from Europe and a new American Airlines flight from Miami are likely to add to this trend, said a spokesperson for the company.
"Access to Northern regions will be opened up and the flow of passengers to the north east of Brazil which has already quadrupled between 2002 and 2005 should continue to soar," said the spokesperson.
The stable presidency of Lula since 2003 has helped the country's social stability and appeal to visitors, with Brazil currently ranked the thirteenth economy in the world.
