The number of Chinese visitors to Britain is growing exponentially, but chief executive Stephen Dowd said on Tuesday that the tourism industry is ready to handle the increasing numbers.
In comments made to BBC Radio Five Live's 'Wake Up to Money' Stephen Dowd expected the large numbers would not be a problem 'for the foreseeable future'.
The World Tourism Organisation earlier predicted that there would be 100 million Chinese tourists travelling worldwide by 2020, with a large proportion of them heading to the UK.
According to Mr Dowd, there were about 160,000 Chinese visitors to the UK last year, with the figure expected to grow by 20,000 this year.
"This market is growing at a pace of about 25 to 30 per cent increase a year, so we see that it would be a very significant proportion of our inbound visitors over the coming years," said Mr Dowd.
The UK is one of the favoured destinations for Chinese tourists, who are attracted by the history, heritage, buildings and landscape of the British isles.
