The number of people making music in their homes is increasing steadily, Halifax
Home Insurance reports.
Around 7.8 million British homes contain at least one musical instrument, the firm claims, with 9.7 million UK residents pursuing a musical interest of some kind.
On average, this equates to one in three UK households owning an instrument worth £523 or more, with a combined worth of £6.8 billion.
Halifax attibutes much of this rise to increasingly affordable digital recording equipment, which is allowing a record number of artists to produce music in their own home.
There are also a number of government schemes designed to increase access to music. The Arts Council England yesterday launched a new "take it away" programme that will give three winners musical instruments worth £1000.
Halifax advises homeowners as that musical instruments are also a clear target for thieves, people should ensure that they have adequate
home insurance cover inside and outside their property to protect their possessions.
InsureandGo offers a range of competitive
home insurance policy to cover the contents of people's property.
