The British tourist industry is being rediscovered by British travellers, the British Holiday and Home Parks Association has said.
According to spokesperson Jon Boston, British holidaymakers are moving away from the 'traditional entertainment' style of holiday and looking more towards a 'get away from it all environment'.
The comments come after the National Consumer Council called on the government for greater action on climate change by making Britain a more attractive place to home tourists.
In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, the National Consumer Council argued that Barcelona is currently a cheaper destination than Blackpool for most British tourists, which is leading to an increase in the use of cheap flights.
For Mr Boston, areas like the West Country are still drawing in significant number of tourists, but the key might be in the rediscovery of up and coming areas.
"Places such as north Norfolk, for instance, where you can have a seaside holiday in a place that isn't vastly overpopulated and doesn't have the traditional entertainment but is more a 'get away from it all' environment," he said.
