More UK holidaymakers are taking out
travel insurance and visiting Egypt's White Med region, it has been claimed.
Khaled Ramy, director of the Egyptian State Tourist Office, said destinations like Marsa Matruh and El Alamein in the country's White Med area have long been popular with Egyptians.
However, more overseas visitors have now woken up to the many attractions available there, including excellent water sports and leisure facilities.
He commented: "There are a few resorts there that are state of the art. Thomson will fly there in the summer twice a week from Manchester and from Gatwick, starting in May, so it will be very much accessible from the UK."
According to research by Wanderlust and the Association of Independent Travel Operators, Brits are in a more positive mood when it comes to travel.
It found that 83 per cent of respondents intend to take at least the same number of trips or more in the year ahead, while 77 per cent said this in May 2009.
