UK homeowners could make considerable savings on their energy bills by more effectively monitoring their fuel and water consumption, it has been claimed.
Andy Stanford-Clark, master inventor for IBM and visiting professor at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, said the process of home automation makes people monitor their energy consumption more closely as it offers them the chance to see how much power they are using at any time.
He commented: "As a personal example, I saved approximately one third on my electricity bills since I started monitoring and automating my home. This obviously has reduced my carbon footprint significantly and has saved me money too."
According to Reportlinker.com, 50 per cent of the total price of a home automation system is made up of design, installation and project management costs.
However, 48 per cent of home automation dealers expect an increase in revenues in 2010.
