More UK holidaymakers are taking out travel insurance and visiting eastern destinations.

Sharron Livingston, editor at thetravelmagazine.net, said Turkey, Egypt and Morocco have seen a dramatic increase in visitor numbers by UK holidaymakers over the last 12 months, mainly due to the present poor exchange rate between sterling and the euro, which has made trips to Europe more expensive.

"The pull of eastern promise has always been appealing to British travellers. These destinations often offer great value for money and as long as they do, Brits will keep on visiting," she commented.

According to villa holiday specialist CV Travel's latest research, over 60 per cent of British holidaymakers are reported to plan to holiday closer to home, 68 per cent of travel is currently to European Union countries, with a notable rise in travel to countries dubbed the 'Costa del Kasbah' - Turkey, Egypt, and Morocco.
