Many people would be more devastated by losing their car than they would if their partner left them or their pet passed away.

A surprising one in ten respondents to a Victim Support survey said that their vehicles were more precious to them than their four-legged friends.

One in 20 said that their mode of transport held a more cherished place in their heart than their partner.

Ken Madine, head of fundraising at Victim Support, said that statistics demonstrated that "many people become very attached to their cars and get upset if they're broken into, or vandalised".

Every year, Mr Madine explained, "hundreds of thousands of people become victims of car crime".

Victim Support, he lamented, "can only help some of them".

The survey highlighted the need for car owners to better protect their assets against damage.

Car insurance, such as that provided by the famously affordable and comprehensive InsureandGo, can be an important aspect of preparing for the loss of ones beloved four-wheeled friend.
