UK motorcycle owners have been urged to get tough on thieves, and failing to do so could see many bikers having to claim on their motorcycle insurance for the cost of a new vehicle.

Vehicle tracking company Tracker claimed that during 2008, the firm was able to recover more than £300,000-worth of vehicles which had been fitted with its tracking devices.

Bill Raynal, managing director for Tracker, commented: "All motorcycle owners need to take steps to protect their assets, as the current economic climate means many households aren't in the position to replace a stolen bike."

The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) recently published a manual which has been designed to help riders improve their driving posture and to stay safe while biking.

How to be a Better Rider was put together by IAM staff examiner Jon Taylor and is being marketed as a book of guiding principles for motorcyclists of any experience, be they beginners or seasoned riders.

InsureandGo offers motorcycle insurance for individuals who want to experience the open road on two wheels.
