When choosing holiday destinations, Britons still prefer to look abroad for their holidays, according to the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA).

A spokesperson for the organisation has said that with many cheap overseas flights available as well as a very developed package holiday industry, leaving the country is a natural choice for many tourists.

Robin Broke, director of the ALVA, said: "There are signs that people are beginning to stay at home at bit more, but we also - second only to Germany - like to go abroad for our holidays."

He added that people are often tempted to holiday within the UK when the pound is performing badly against overseas economies.

With recent gains made by the euro, Mr Broke stated that some UK tourists may choose to stay at home this summer to take advantage of cheap deals within the country.

The ALVA comprises members of some of the UK's most popular attractions which between them attract over 100 million domestic and overseas visitors.

InsureandGotravel insurance packages are tailored to individual holiday habits for those travelling both at home and abroad.
