People are unnecessarily scared of undertaking home improvements, according to JML resident DIY presenter Andrew Bernard.
He points out the types of home improvement project that fall into the category of DIY are not generally on a scale to be afraid of.
For instance, painting, decorating and carpentry can all be carried out quite easily and save the homeowner money in the process.
But more ambitious projects, such as knocking down walls, would not typically be seen as things most people could do on their own.
"If you just think about your project, plan it out in your mind [and] make sure you have got safety wear then really you can't go wrong," he asserts.
Mr Bernard adds that a simple project - such as repainting a single wall - can have an immediate effect on the look of a home.
However, anyone thinking of undertaking major refurbishments or structural changes to their property may want to check their
home insurance covers the work and will not be voided by the modifications.
InsureandGo can offer home insurance to protect against any DIY mishaps.
