There has been a dramatic growth in the number of people taking out finance with car dealerships when purchasing a new vehicle over the last few months, it has been revealed.

According to figures provided by the Finance and Leasing Association (FLA), instances of car buyers using finance to purchase their new vehicle rose by 82 per cent in November.

Geraldine Kilkelly, head of research and chief economist at the FLA, commented: "Buying a new car is a sign of consumer confidence, as replacing an older car is usually a discretionary, rather than an essential purchase."

Elsewhere, the Peugeot 3008 Crossover was recently named What Car?'s Car of the Year 2010.

The magazine's editor Steve Fowler noted the car has the looks that people want at the moment and also offers great space and handling, making the 3008 the best car of 2009-10.
