Britons are prepared to spend approximately £8,500 on security features for their home, a new study has revealed.

Some 33 per cent of respondents in a recent Alliance & Leicester survey also stated that they would like to live in a gated community.

A fifth of people stated that they would be willing to purchase bars for their doors and windows, 52 per cent would consider buying a CCTV system to watch windows, doors and the boundaries of their property and 68 per cent would think about a top-of-the-range alarm system.

Senior personal loans manager at Alliance & Leicester Richard Al-Dabbagh stated: "Although CCTV and alarm systems may not stop a house being targeted, they both present a very visible deterrent, even to the experienced and expert burglar."

The Association of British Insurers recently identified security lights and gravel drives as a good combination for lowering home insurance premiums.

However well protected their properties are, consumers wishing to obtain a home insurance quote may find they can benefit from contacting InsureandGo for a quote.
