Small business owners who are worried about their ability to stay afloat during difficult economic conditions have been reminded that commercial insurance is as important as ever.

Nick James, owner of online entrepreneurial support club nick-james.com, has urged people to take out cover if they have not done so already.

He told Get Bracknell that the recent floods highlighted the importance of making sure business premises - and possibly economic livelihoods - were protected.

"Don't put your livelihood at risk in the name of cost cutting. Even if your income dries up, there will still be bills to pay so it’s better to play safe," Mr James advised.

He concluded by suggesting that business-owners need to take a long-term view and consider the implications of making cutbacks for short-term savings.

Elsewhere, last month Halifax warned homeowners that they needed to take steps to minimise the damage done by storms after the Met Office issued severe weather warnings for many parts of the country.

InsureandGo offers competitive commercial insurance options for people looking to limit outgoings in difficult times.
