Business travel less popular during economic crisis

The current economic downturn could mean that people fly business less often, it has been claimed.

Stewart Cordner, deputy vice-president of sales and marketing and asset management at BAE Systems, said that the "harder environment" could see travellers not flying in business class as much and suggested that travel for leisure may be most affected.

He says that firms will be looking to cut back on spending and seek out cheaper options to get their employees from A to B.

Those companies who are members of the European Regional Airline Association have recently reported a slow period of growth that is comparable to after the terrorist attacks of September 11th 2001.

Passenger growth of 3.7 per cent for the period of January to June was shown, which is the lowest increase since the same time in 2001.

Statistics have shown that businesses are cutting back on travel expenditure in the wake of the ongoing financial flurry across the globe - over a quarter of respondents to the Business Travel Coalition Reports said they had put emergency travel cutbacks in place.

Those travelling for business or pleasure need the correct type of travel insurance.
