Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger, toured popular Californian tourist destinations that remain open and operational after the region's recent wildfires.

Locations he visited that were not affected by the fires included Legoland, Sea World San Diego and San Diego Zoo.

Mr Schwarzenegger stated that the state will do all it can to encourage tourism to help regenerate the economy of southern California.

He added that people may have heard about the fires and assumed that the majority of the south of the state burned down, but that this was untrue.

"I'm here today to announce to the whole world: Southern California is still here and it remains open for business. We have the best weather, the best scenery and the best tourist destinations right here," he concluded.

In recent days Mr Schwarzenegger also called for improved fire preventions steps to be made so that the state will be better prepared should a similar situation occur in future.
